Builders Insurance

A builder carries the whole site — your own work, the subcontractors under you, and the half-finished structure itself. When something goes wrong on a job the claim rarely stops at your part of it, which is why builders need cover built around the site, not a single trade.

Cover

What builders need covered

Public liability

For injury or property damage on and around your site, at the $10m–$20m limits builders and principals name in the contract before you can start.

Contract works & the build itself

Fire, storm, theft or damage to the works in progress — the structure you're mid-build on isn't covered by a standard liability policy. We arrange contract works so a setback doesn't come out of your margin.

Subcontractors & tools

Your use of subbies changes your liability, and their work can become your claim. We disclose it properly, and cover your tools and plant on site and in transit.

Cover, limits and examples shown are general in nature and subject to eligibility, underwriting and the terms of the issued policy.

Speak with our team on 1300 080 323.

What insurance does a builder need in Australia?
Public liability is the core — usually $10m–$20m to meet contracts — alongside contract works for the build itself and tools and plant for your gear. If you use subcontractors, that needs disclosing too. We build the mix around the jobs you take.
Are my subcontractors covered under my policy?
Not automatically — their work can become your liability, and how you engage them affects your cover. We make sure your use of subbies is disclosed so a claim involving them responds instead of being declined.
Is the building I'm working on covered if it's damaged?
Only under contract works cover — a standard liability policy won't pay for fire, storm or theft damage to the works in progress. For most builders that's an essential piece, and we place it alongside your liability.
